Idlan Zakaria is a football-mad academic based in Colchester. After much procrastination, she (yes, it’s a she…) has decided that Season 2009/10 would be a good time to start watching her local team. A Malaysian (Bangi by way of Durham and Lancaster), she has supported another ‘United’ (and still does) who ply their trade in the upper echelons of English football. Navel-gazing has led her to believe that the Premiership game has lost touch with the grassroots nature of the sport, and she sets off to re-discover the magic with Colchester United.
